Best Views in the Valley

We think the views from our deck are the best in Cache Valley. Facing east directly across Valley View Highway from downtown Logan, we gaze across cultivated fields to Cutler Marsh and across the to Bear River Range and Mount Logan. To the south and west, we look down the eastern face of the Wellsville Range and the sharp, steep cone of Mendon Peak. Hike out the driveway and up the hill to state and national forest less than 2 miles uphill. Two miles south is the road from Mendon up to Deep Canyon and its spectacular trail to the top of the Wellsvilles and the annual Hawkwatch. Saddle up a horse, or strap on the x-country skis or snowshoes, and head out over fields covered with Utah’s “greatest snow on Earth.” Bikers speed along the Mendon Road (Hwy. 23) from Wellsville north along the west side of Cache Valley to Clarkston, Newton and other points north.

Pre-dawn view from our deck of a sliver moon rising above Logan.

View of our property, directly below Mendon Peak in this photo from Valley View Highway
in the middle of the Valley, at Cutler Marsh.

September fields and a nice rainbow from the front deck, looking northeast.

We take the dogs across the road every morning to do their “business.”
It’s a great, open frolic, and a wonderful way to start the day.

A bright, early winter day the view from our road south at the Wellsvilles and Mendon Peak.

Another stunning sunrise in early winter from our front deck, due east toward Logan.

And even in winter, Lulu likes to look out from the deck.

Or the dogs celebrating the first snow in the yard on October. A pink sunset between a couple of those big spruces in the side yard. Yet another beautiful sunrise across the Valley. Or these—two different views on two different mornings. We walk the dogs across the road and into the rolling foothills below the Wellsvilles. On this morning, storm clouds coming from the north while sun shines on Cache Valley. On this morning, fog coats the center of the Valley, while we sit in winter sun higher up the Wellsville bench. It’s a beautiful place to live.
